Savings goal

Two questions, one chart: the path to the goal line.

Back

Set a target amount, what you already have and an expected annual return. In “how much to save” mode, enter a deadline and see the monthly contribution required. In “how long” mode, enter the contribution and see how many months the goal would take.

The chart plots the accumulation curve against the goal line. The formula inverts future value with monthly compounding (nominal rate ÷ 12).

Everything stays in the browser. Use it for a trip, an emergency fund or a down payment — without treating the result as a guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

What if the return is zero?

Then the contribution (or time) is just the remaining gap split evenly.

Why is the goal unreachable?

If there is no contribution and the rate is zero — or the contribution is too small for a high target with no yield — there is no finite term.

Do the numbers leave this page?

No. The calculation is local.

Does this include inflation?

Optionally. Turn on inflation and enter a rate: the goal stays in today’s purchasing power, and the contribution (or the time) rises to compensate.
