Frequently asked questions
Will the file be exactly the size I picked?
No. Compression uses a single bitrate pass, so the result lands near the target (“about X MB”), not byte-for-byte. The panel shows the real size afterwards.
Which formats can I compress?
Input: MP4, WebM, MKV, MOV and other common types (AVI, WMV and FLV via FFmpeg). Output: MP4 or WebM, keeping the original when it is already one of those.
Are my videos uploaded to a server?
No. All compression happens in the browser. Nothing is sent to the internet.
What if the file gets larger?
Videos that are already tightly compressed may grow when re-encoded. The tool warns you and lets you download the result anyway, without replacing the original.
How do I convert to another format?
